Overweight Golden Retriever Was Almost Put Down By Owner, Instead He Got A New Home And Is Finally Healthy

Today we are bringing you a truly inspiring story of a golden retriever that turned his life around after being mistreated by his first owner!
Kai is a precious Golden retriever that like any other dog is deeply in love with food. Unfortunately, his previous owner did not take into consideration how unhealthy dogs can get if they gain too much weight, and he severely overfed him.
Kai ended up weighing about 173 lbs, about 100 lbs more than golden retrievers are supposed to weight. Kai wasn’t able to move normally. Running and playing outside was therefore absolutely impossible.
After getting tired of him, his owner decided to put him down at the age of 10, not even considering to take him to a shelter, and give him the opportunity to find a loving new family.
Thankfully, the vet refused to do so, took Kai to a shelter himself, and soon after that he would be adopted by a kind hearted woman who changed his life for the better.
His new owner, Pam Heggie explained: “He was taken in to be put down by his previous owners due to obesity. He was 173 lbs when he was taken in, and his mobility was very limited. He now weighs 68 lbs and is healthy and active.”
Kai did hydrotherapy and daily walks to lose weight. The only snacks he had been given were fruits and veggies. Now he is also able to go outside and play.
Thanks to his new healthy lifestyle, Kai lost more than 100 pounds. After slimming down, he became a certified therapy dog and started doing hospital visits. Even after being mistreated the way he has been, he still has a lot of love to give to others.
He is a true inspiration to many!
