People Are Jumping To Shia LaBeouf’s Defense After Being Accused Of Laughing At Co-Star With Down Syndrome
Shia LaBeouf somehow just can’t get a break from criticism, even when there is no actual reason to criticize him! Unfortunately his controversial, tabloid-past is the reason why people keep the spotlight on his every move. During the 2020 Oscar Ceremony it was no differen, it took just about 45 seconds for the film award show’s viewers to destroy Shia.
After LaBeouf and Zack Gottsagen, his co-star from Peanut Butter Falcon, announced the winner in the “Best Short Film” category some people took to social media to call out LaBeouf for apparently laughing and looking “impatient” when Gottsagen began announcing the winner.
Tens of people accused him for intolerant and distasteful behavior towards his co-star with Down Syndrome.
– Ok Shia LeBoeuf is canceled – wrote one Twitter user.
– Shia LaBeouf laughed at that boy… on live TV.. yikes – wrote another.
However, after the witch hunt begun, many rushed to LaBeouf’s rescue, reminding others of the friendship between the two stars.
Some even called attention to many calling Gottsagen a “kid” even though he is 34 years old!
– Zack Gottsagen is a disabled adult actor, not a child! He costarred in a film with Shia LeBoeuf who ADVOCATED for him to be his co-presenter. It’s telling that everyone’s assumption is that he was making fun of him, not that he was proud or having fun with him. Subtle ableism – a Twitter user points out.
Many also cited some powerful words of gratitude that LaBeouf shared regarding his work—and friendship with the 34-year-old Gottsagen in Peanut Butter Falcon.
“I don’t think anyone could have done what he did in that film. I don’t think that if you brought Daniel Day Lewis in we wouldn’t have had the same moments.”
LaBeouf also never hesitates to say that working with Gottsagen changed his life forever.
