She Cried “Every Day For A Year”: Kate Ferdinand Walked Out On Rio And Moved Back To Essex

Reality TV star Kate Ferdinand has finally admitted that she had to leave husband Rio Ferdinand and move back to “her little flat in Essex” because of their difficult home life.
Kate now opened up about feeling isolated and out of place after moving in with Rio and his three children, Lorenz, 13, Tate, 11, and Tia, 8. She recalls going through a lot as Rio mourned the loss of his mother Janice, just two years after losing his wife Rebecca.
“You” magazine reports the reality star saying she cried “every single day for a year” when she first moved in with him and his family.
“It was an incredibly difficult time… Nothing in the house was mine; everyone called it ‘Rio’s house’. All the photographs were of Rebecca and the children. I had no place. I remember after six months becoming obsessed with wanting Molton Brown Rhubarb & Rose soap that I always have at home, just to have a smell I knew” – says Ferdinand.
Kate also remembers “feeling crushed” after the little bottle of soap got taken away.
“As stupid as it sounds, that crushed me, but what was making me feel more isolated was if I said those things out loud people would think I was pathetic and selfish. I lost myself. I felt as though I was acting all the time, trying to smile and learn to cook and be this perfect woman.”
The feeling of not being welcome in Rio’s home wasn’t the only problem she was facing, she also had to put up with constant critique and being compared to Rebecca.
“When I’d cook something, someone would say, “Rebecca didn’t do it like that,” and I’d smile but inside I’d feel crushed.”
However, the ex-soccer player managed to get over Kate walking out on him and decided to make living together work.
Last year they tied the knot in Turkey and filmed a new BBC documentary Rio And Kate: Becoming A Step Family. Rio claims that this documentary actually helped them talk through their issues.
“I realised that if I wanted to make it work, we needed help. And doing another documentary could help us by finding answers” – Rio added.
