Name a more iconic duo: Oko, a golden retriever puppy, is the guide dog to Tao
Oko is a golden retriever puppy who lives up to the expectations that golden retrievers truly have a heart of gold!
Oko is currently the guide for a blind dog named Tao.
Tao is a 12 years old golden retriever that had his eyes removed after he was unfortunately suffering from glaucoma.
His owner, Melanie Jackson, explained how it all went down. After getting diagnosed with glaucoma, an eye disease where the eye can’t effectively drain its fluids, Tao’s condition was getting worse every day. At first, he seemed to be doing just fine, but in the evening, he started shaking his head, a few hours later, he went blind in one eye and had that eye removed. Later that year, his second eye had to be removed as well.
Thankfully, Tao recovered quickly. Soon he was able to walk off leash again, but something was still missing. He needed someone to play with and someone to keep him company and help him with some more complicated tasks.
Melanie then decided to bring Oko into their life. Oko was a loving 8 weeks old puppy at that time and very quickly won over the love of Tao and Melanie.
The trio became inseparable and Oko became the guide dog to Tao. Tao follows Oko around when they’re going on walks together, and they also sleep together. They’re around each other all the time, and are not only best friends but a great example as to how deep the love of golden retrievers really is.
