Young Genius Who Promised To Clean The Ocean Just Created Solar-Powered Barges That Clean Rivers
Boyan Slat is a 25-years-old Dutch inventor who is about to change the world.
It all started 9 years ago when he was 16 and going on a diving trip to Greece. What he there saw changed his life. In the ocean grounds, he could see more plastic than fish. That was the moment he promised himself he was going to do something about that.
Only two years later he started ‘The Ocean Cleanup’ project and created a passive floating device that collects plastic.
But this young genius did not stop there and recently created a solar-powered barge to collect the plastic out of the rivers. That way the plastic is prevented from getting into the ocean.
This solar-powered barge that can clean up to 110 tons of garbage every day.
Boyan was able to collect two shipping containers full of trash with the help of his passive floating device over the years. But on deeper research, the inventor found out that the 1000 rivers around the world are the source of about 80 percent of the plastic that gets into the ocean. So the only way to prevent oceans from further contaminations was to clean the rivers as well.
That’s when his latest invention the “Inceptor” was created. The solar-powered barge is created to clean up rivers form plastic. It can collect up to 110 tons of garbage that would otherwise get into the ocean waters.
Thanks to him the ocean pollution problem could be solved at the source, so the plastic that gets thrown into rivers would never reach the ocean.
You can also support The Ocean Cleanup’s mission by nominating rivers or donating so more ‘Inceptors’ can be build to clean more rivers.
